Bathroom Plumbing Basildon Specialist first-fix stage

DIY Bathroom Renovation — Bath, Exposed Thermostatic Shower Valve & First Fix, Basildon

Challenge: The customer was tackling their own bathroom renovation but wanted the specialist bath plumbing handled professionally before the room was plastered and tiled. The new bath had to be set perfectly level in position, an exposed thermostatic bar shower valve had to be first-fixed into the wall with hot and cold supplies chased neatly into the brickwork, and every measurement had to be planned so the valve, bath taps and finished tiled walls all lined up correctly. The customer also wanted a tiled bath panel rather than a standard plastic panel, which meant building a solid, fully waterproof substrate ready to be tiled directly.

Solution: I first-fixed all the pipework for the exposed shower valve — hot and cold supplies chased neatly into the wall, perfectly level, securely clipped and pressure tested before the walls were closed up for tiling. I then installed and accurately levelled the new bath. To create the tiled bath panel, I fitted waterproof tile backer boards in place of a standard bath panel, giving the customer a rigid, moisture-resistant surface ready to tile straight onto. Every dimension was carefully set out so the valve outlet, bath taps and finished tile lines would all align once the renovation was complete.

Result: The customer was left with a fully prepared, watertight first-fix ready for plastering and tiling — exposed thermostatic shower valve pipework set true and level, bath in position, and a tile-ready bath panel that gives the finished bathroom a high-end, bespoke look once the DIY work is complete.

Cloakroom Modernisation — Concealed Cistern WC & Vanity Unit, Chelmsford

Challenge: The customer wanted to modernise their downstairs cloakroom by replacing a dated back-to-wall toilet and small wall-mounted basin with a contemporary vanity unit and a new concealed cistern WC. Although on paper it looked like a straightforward swap, the existing pipework boxing didn’t match the footprint of the new furniture, so the new units couldn’t simply be dropped into place. The cistern feed, waste connection and basin services all needed to line up precisely with the new vanity and WC unit while keeping the plumbing accessible for any future maintenance.

Solution: After stripping out the old sanitaryware, I carefully modified the existing pipework boxing so the new vanity unit and concealed cistern furniture would slot perfectly into position, while keeping service access where it mattered. New water supplies and waste pipework were then connected, fully aligned to the new units, and pressure-tested before commissioning. To finish, I sealed all the exposed edges of the vanity and WC unit with a neat silicone bead so the furniture reads as built-in rather than bolted on.

Result: The cloakroom now feels like a completely different room — a sleek green fluted vanity with a brushed brass tap and matching concealed cistern WC replace the dated suite, giving the customer a modern, space-saving finish with hidden storage and a properly built-in look.

Bathroom Plumbing Brentwood (CM13) Bespoke multi-stage installation

Victorian Roll Top Bath Installation — Brentwood, Essex

Challenge: A Brentwood customer had always wanted an original Victorian steel roll top bath and wanted the finished room to feel properly bespoke rather than forced into a standard layout. After discussing several installation options, we agreed the bath should sit slightly away from the corner to suit both the room proportions and the customer’s style. That decision created extra plumbing work: the toilet needed relocating to create the right clearance, a new core hole had to be drilled for the revised pipework, and new hot and cold copper feeds had to be first-fixed through the floor for freestanding bath taps. Because the bath was an original steel model, it was also extremely heavy and needed to be manoeuvred into position carefully without damaging the floor or the bath itself. On top of that, the existing tap holes were larger than modern standard fittings, so a straightforward off-the-shelf installation was not possible.

Solution: I worked closely with the customer from start to finish to turn the vision into a practical installation plan. Once the final bath position was set, I relocated the toilet to free up the required space and drilled a new core hole through the wall to route the revised services neatly. New hot and cold copper pipes were first-fixed through the floor in the correct position for the freestanding taps, then I carefully manoeuvred the original Victorian bath into place using specialist handling methods, including a car jack, so it could be aligned safely and accurately. To finish the plumbing properly, I used bespoke solutions around the oversized tap holes so the traditional fittings could be secured cleanly and professionally without compromising the look of the bath.

Result: The finished Brentwood installation combines original Victorian character with modern plumbing performance. The roll top bath now sits exactly where it best suits the room, the relocated toilet gives the bath the clearance it needed, and the custom pipework and tap detailing deliver a secure, high-end finish tailored to the customer’s exact requirements.

Silicone Sealant Replacement & Resealing Ongar (CM5) 1.5 hours

Shower Tray Leak Investigation & Reseal — Ongar

Challenge: Customer called about water damage showing on the wall and ceiling below an upstairs shower. The source was not obvious from downstairs, so the tray and enclosure needed checking before more damage spread.

Solution: Investigated the shower tray and found the existing silicone had failed and pulled away from the tray, letting water escape during use. Fully removed the old sealant, cleaned the area back properly, then re-applied fresh white silicone around the tray and a beige vertical corner seal to colour-match the tiles.

Result: Leak path stopped, shower tray left watertight again, and the finished seal matched the bathroom far better than a standard all-white bead.
